Business lockouts on Buckner, Lake June and Bruton

When your business becomes locked out, you lose money by the minute while your personnel stand outside and potential clients drive by your premises. We open glass storefront doors, steel back doors, office suites and roll-up gate padlocks without damaging anything and we make sure the lock works properly before we leave.

Before you call us, check if any of your keyholders is closer than we are and try the back door. When a key turns in the cylinder but the door does not open, this may be caused by the door closer or the door hanging in the frame, not the lock itself. Do not try to force an aluminum storefront door with the help of a bar. The stile of such door may bend, the glass can break and fixing it costs much more than the lock itself.

Call us when there are no more keys, when a key is stuck in the cylinder, when the lock is a high-security or interchangeable core type, or when you need to open the lock urgently.

Master key systems and master rekeys

With the master key system you get one master key that unlocks all doors and several other keys, which unlock only doors that should be unlocked by particular staff: for example, the front door and the stock room for managers and the front door for the cashier. This system is the standard system used in restaurants, clinics, churches and in the offices of apartments located on Umphress and Bruton roads and allows you to avoid carrying around a ring of twenty keys.

Master rekey means changing all pins in the cylinders opened by the old key, cutting new keys and updating the key chart. With interchangeable-core locks it takes us several minutes to replace the core. You can have extra cores with you and just replace the core of the lock whenever you get a new key holder.

This is what you can do by yourself: keep a written key log with a serial number on every key, collect keys during the exit walk and count them. If you would like to get keys that cannot be duplicated in the automatic kiosks, order a restricted keyway – in this case, the blanks can be obtained only by us and only for the people on your authorized list.

Call us the day the manager or the night-crew lead leaves with keys you cannot get back, after any break-in, or when you are opening the second facility and would like to connect both facilities in the same key system.

Commercial lock changes

Commercial locks require specific hardware. Locks for the entrances that are used often need Grade 1 levers designed for a couple hundred of cycles per day. Mortise deadlatch or hookbolt is used on narrow-stile aluminum storefront doors and not the residential deadbolts. In addition, in the offices the levers must be used instead of knobs to satisfy the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. We have Schlage, Sargent, Adams Rite, Medeco and keypad levers in our stock and install them taking into account the door and the traffic.

These are some of the issues you can deal with yourselves: a loose lever requires tightening of the through-bolts, the latch, which does not catch, requires adjustment of the strike or slowing of the door closer, the stiff cylinder requires dry lubrication and not oil. Check the door closer before you consider the lock as a possible cause of the problem. The door that either slams or cannot be pulled shut is the door closer in nine cases out of ten.

Call us for the problems with the lock installed on a fire-rated door because the incorrect hardware voids its rating, on the exit doors, for keypad or electronic locks, which allow having a personal code for each employee, and for storefront hardware, which has to correspond the backset and stile width the first time.

Push bar and panic bar installation

The exit devices or the push bars on the exit doors are required in many Dallas facilities: assembly areas such as churches, restaurants and gyms with a required occupant count, schools, and anywhere else, where the fire marshal requires them. We install rim devices on the single doors, vertical rod devices on the pairs, alarmed exit devices on the back doors that should be exit only and outside lever trim with the keyed cylinder allowing using the same door as the morning entrance.

Test your bars once a month. With one hand push the bar; the door should open without requiring the key, without tools and without a second motion. Keep the way to the door free. If your device has a dogging feature, use the hex key to prevent the latch from locking during business hours and then undog the device when you close to make the door lock. You should never chain or padlock a panic door even overnight. Alarmed exit device will allow you to secure the door without violating the code.

Call us if your bar does not retract the latch, if the door does not lock itself when it closes, if you need the outside trim to be keyed in your system or if the fire inspector gave you the list.

Commercial safes: installation and lockouts

We install drop safes for cash businesses along Buckner and Lake June to secure the cash registers against the excess of money inside them, plus TL-rated and fire-rated safes for the records, deposits and firearms. We bolt each safe to the floor, place it away from the front windows and install an electronic lock with the time delay if you require it.

Locked out of the safe? Most likely, the batteries of your safe lock are dead. In most commercial safes the 9-volt battery is placed in the keypad housing; change the battery and try to operate the lock again. If your lock is a dial lock, try to enter the combination slowly and start over if you skip any number. Do not drill and do not force the lock. Both ways usually turn simple opening of the safe into replacement of the whole lock.

Call us if you lost the combination of your safe, if your keypad became inoperable with a new battery, if your bolt work is jammed, if your employee took the combination of the safe or if you need to install a new safe.

Common questions

How fast can you rekey a whole store?

Most small businesses with four to eight doors are completed within an hour, including new keys and a key chart.

Can my employees copy my keys?

Yes, they can duplicate standard keys. Restricted keyway will not allow that; the blanks can be obtained only by us and only for the people from your authorized list.

Do I need a push bar on my back door?

Probably yes if the door is a required exit. If it is an exit only, the alarmed exit device is usually installed. We will check that when we are on-site.
